Pete Smith, President

I’ve always loved Maine. It’s been my home for a long time.

I organized and was the first manager of my college radio station at Nasson College in Springvale, Maine. I’ve been in broadcasting and communications ever since.

After a dozen years or so in broadcast journalism, the guy who shot and edited many of my stories, Barry Atwood, one day wondered whether we should start our own video business. We chewed on that for a short time and we finally agreed: Yes! And we called it Smith Atwood Video Services, Inc.

In our own business we get to do many of the same things we did ‘back in the news days’. There are always new people to meet. There are fascinating subjects to explore. And our informational videos help non-profits, businesses, schools, the legal community, and government agencies.

I very much enjoy being part of a small, full-service video company. It’s most gratifying when our many customers tell us how easy we are to work with. We do scripting, interviewing, production, and editing.

Over the years we’ve won plenty of awards. Awards are fine. But what I like best is when a customer says, “You listened to us! And you gave us exactly what we wanted.”

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Barry Atwood, Vice President

I grew up in Maine and attended schools in Augusta and Cape Elizabeth, and received a BA from Colby College in Waterville. For several years Pete Smith and I worked together at WCSH on daily newscasts and investigative reporting. We could see how critically important the field of communications had become so we decided to use our experience. We formed our production company and worked hard to make it what it is today.

Today, after completing many projects for corporate, legal and non profit clients I have seen how my newsroom experience has served me well. I respond to the challenge of setting and meeting deadlines.  I love to brainstorm with clients and have seen how listening improves the final product. And I recognize and fully respect the seemingly endless variety of approaches to fulfill a client’s goal.

On the personal side, I am very interested in the issues that face young people and have particularly enjoyed  producing videos for camps, schools and non-profits. I am on the board of advisors at Camp Kieve, a member of the Gorham Action Team for Youth in Gorham and a Trustee of the United Church of Christ at North Gorham.

So please contact us to set up an appointment. Pete and I would love to sit down with you, hear your ideas and suggest an approach that fits your budget!
